This proposal explores a timber addition to an existing New York City Housing Authority development in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Conceived as a sustainable model for urban growth, the project seeks to support long-term residents in an increasingly gentrified neighborhood while strengthening the social and civic infrastructure of the existing community.

The intervention transforms an underutilized surface parking lot into a new public landscape anchored by community-oriented programs, including a kindergarten, health center, and community kitchen. These facilities are elevated above the existing three-story residential buildings, creating a new layer of shared amenities while preserving the housing below.

By relocating parking underground and increasing its capacity, the project frees the site for a landscaped park that supports recreation, gathering, and outdoor activities. Vehicular circulation is redirected away from the public open space, allowing former roadways to be re-imagined as pedestrian and bicycle connections. Together, these interventions create a safer, more accessible, and more vibrant environment for residents and visitors alike.
